Moscow, December 2006
Tverskaya street in the never-ending snow. Since our dorms at MXAT were just off Tverskaya and the back entrace to my theater was on it, I spent nearly all my time in this neighborhood.
Traffic, with one of Stalin's Seven Sisters in the background, early one afternoon.
Tverskaya street by the back entrace to my theater. The yellow sign on the right is for Shokoladnitsa, or Chocolate Girl, a cafe famous for their rich, dark hot chocolate.
Max sent me roses; they were so beautiful! I am getting really excited and impatient to see him back at Grinnell : D
Robyn at our (very pathetic) Christmas dinner...at least we tried, though. We had a food from each food group: grain, nuts, dairy, fruits, vegetables, chocolates.
Me at кофе хауз, an expensive but nice coffee place, for breakfast. I remember feeling exhausted and half dead, but I look suprisingly awake and happy in the picture. Its funny how that happens sometimes.
The Mossovieta at night, with genteel guests arriving in enormous fur coats. The elegant atmosphere only went to a certain point, though; I was nearly mauled trying to retrieve my coat from the coat check. Over the course of two weeks I saw Three Sisters, My poor Marat, Uncle Vanya, Kavaliers, Cyrano de Bergerac, Shivorot-Navyivorot (Russian fairy-tale), Holiday Men, Wife Husband Lover, The Minor, and Songs from our Komunalka. I thought I would get sick of seeing plays every day, and sometimes twice a day, but these were excellently done, and all very different one from another, and I enjoyed them quite a bit.
Me in front of a church near the Tretyakov Gallery, one of Moscow's finest art museums.
